Why Should I Volunteer?

“Everyone has something to offer so don’t think that you can’t be part of the volunteering team”
- Yvonne Gardner

Volunteering with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service is rewarding as it offers the opportunity to meet new people, undertake new challenges and experiences; and provides the satisfaction that comes from making a real contribution to the safety of communities in Tyne and Wear.

“I work with a really great team or people, it’s like we are part of a big family”

Volunteers make a huge contribution to our organisation as they:

  • Enable us to spread fire safety messages to the wider community, often to those most vulnerable such as Black Minority Ethnic (BME), disabled, the elderly

  • Assist staff in improving community engagement and relationship building throughout Tyne and Wear

  • Add value to the services our staff currently offer, through their knowledge of specific communities or groups
