Fire Safety
The primary focus of the Fire and Rescue Service is prevention. In order to prevent deaths and injuries from fires and other emergencies , we deliver a comprehensive Community Safety service including a complimentary Legislative Fire Safety service. To achieve theses aims we to focus on the need to prevent fires and other emergencies from occurring , and if they do occur then restrict their impact to the community. The Community Safety team works collaboratively with partners to reduce arson, promote the adoption of good fire safety behaviour and increase the use of smoke alarms and domestic sprinkler systems . In addition to this , the team promotes community safety through school education, and undertakes initiatives including The Phoenix Project, The Princes Trust and the Young Firefighters Association. Community Safety is not the sole responsibility of a dedicated team but is now a key role of our emergency response personnel. It is our policy to effectively manage fire safety to ensure a reduction in the number of fires, fire-related deaths and injuries, through the effective enforcement of Fire Safety legislation. We have a statutory requirement to provide this service and seek to effectively and efficiently enforce all Fire Safety legislation for which the Tyne and Wear Fire Authority has responsibility. Our Fire Safety Officers will provide information which is consistent, appropriate, transparent and timely using the Enforcement Concordat, and the re-inspection of premises in regard to commerce and industry will be prioritised on risk. |
