6. Competent Person

6.1 A competent person will supervise fire drills and instruction.
 
6.2 A ‘Competent Person’ can either be:-
  1. Staff who have received special training regarding fire procedures from a recognized trainer and have received a certificate of successful completion (cascade training).
    or
  2. An external accredited trainer or training agency.
    or
  3. Someone who can demonstrate that they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding.
 
N.B. Staff used to give instruction (cascade training) must receive refresher courses from a recognized Fire Trainer at periods not exceeding 3 years to ensure continued competency.
The individual’s competency will be checked at inspection.
