14. Corridor Fire Doors

14.1 It is the Governments, Commission for Social Care Inspection and Regional Fire & Rescue Service’s direction that no means other than an automatic door closer control should be used to render the self-closing device on a fire-resisting door inoperative.

14.2 Such a control should be fitted only to a door, which cannot be kept closed because of difficulties created for residents going through the doorway in the day-to-day running of the premises.

14.3 Where such devices are not fitted, the provider should instigate a plan that will see the premises supplied with such devices within a prescribed time period as agreed with the relevant Fire Authority and the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

14.4 Doors fitted with approved hold open devices should be physically closed at a pre-determined time each night e.g. 8.00pm, to ensure that fire compartmentation is complete at the time of most risk.
