THE SWIM
The swim is 400m, 16 lengths of the 25m pool. You must attend the pool side 10mins before your swim time.
Swimmers will be staggered at 30 second intervals, so miss your start time, I’m afraid you have missed your race.
The exit from the pool is via the fire doors next to the learner's pool. Caution is needed down the concrete stairs, there will be a Marshall there to slow you down and assist you.
TRANSITION
You must place your cycle in your allocated slot on the racks provided (if you use someone else’s slot you might incur a time penalty).
Competitors only are allowed in the transition area, spectators will be asked to leave. You will be given a number to put on your seat pin of your cycle, and your cycle will only be allowed out of transmission on production of your race number after the race (this if for security of your cycle).
THE CYCLE
This is a 20km cycle which has 2 laps of a 10km course.
Helmets must be worn.
The cycle and run routes will be marshalled by volunteers, who will be positioned at all turn points and areas of risk.
The course:

out of transition and left onto Campbell Park Road for 1 mile.

over a bridge and left onto Lukes Lane Estate, 1 full lap

left out of Lukes Lane Estate, left again and over another bridge, this will lead you onto a dual carriageway, through a coned land assisted by a Marshall to allow easy access.

first slip road off carriageway and left onto York Avenue (this is a roundabout and the Marshall is unable to stop the traffic, so you must obey road regulations). Straight over the mini roundabout.

at the end of the road there is a set of traffic lights which will be manned be police to give right of way to all cyclists, you will turn left here and proceed 1 mile up Victoria Road.

left onto Campbell Park Road and complete another lap.

a Marshall will be placed here and will be counting your laps. After the 2nd lap you must dismount at the designated point and enter transition leaving your helmet on until your cycle has be re-racked.
THE RUN
This is 5km and is also marshalled at all turns and areas of risk.
The course:

out of the transition area and right onto Campbell Park Road.

left onto Victoria Road and straight up to the Fire Station, keeping on the path (about 1 mile).

turn left at the Fire Station and down Mill Lane until you reach the Jet Garage and turn left, there will be a Marshall at this point, so no cutting the corner off!

about 25m and you turn left again on to Finchale Road (for about 1 mile), this will join you to Campbell Park Road where you will turn left and will lead you to the Finish (you must not cross Campbell Park Road until near the finish where a Marshall will cross you).
Showers and changing rooms are provided at the pool.
It is your responsibility to know both the Cycle and the Run routes (see maps enclosed).
The course will be sign posted and marshalled on the day. Whilst competing you must obey all traffic regulations, there will be traffic wardens at the lights at Junction of Park Road/Albert Road who will assist you to take the left turn, you must obey them or risk disqualification.
Drafting is not allowed – our draft busters will catch you out!!!
There is ample parking at the swimming pool but keep clear of the transition area which will be taped off.
There is security in the transition area, but for the presentation you are advised to lock your bikes away in your cars.
Please ensure you are aware of the rules and regulations set out by the BTA, which you will be able to find on the BTA website. Can you please make sure you have your race licence with you.
The presentation will be at the Longship Pub at 11:00am prompt, where our well know buffet will be provided as usual. There will be results sheets available for those who want to know how fast they really were!
Directions
Heading from the South:
A1 North – A19(M)
to Whitemere Pool roundabout, straight onto A194 Leam lane, left at the first roundabout, sign posted for Hebburn B1306 Mill Lane.
Straight on to the traffic lights (Fire Station will be straight in front of you), and turn right onto A185 Victoria Road, follow the road for about 1 mile until you come to a roundabout, turn right and first left and you will be at the pool.
Heading from North:
From the M74
M74 to the A69, then onto A1 South passed the Metro Centre, passed the Angel of the North, take the slip road off sign posted for A1231 & A194(M). Follow signs for A1(M) South Shields/Tyne Tunnel to Whitemere Pool roundabout, straight onto A194 Leam lane, left at the first roundabout, sign posted for Hebburn B1306 Mill Lane.
Straight on to the traffic lights (Fire Station will be straight in front of you), and turn right onto A185 Victoria Road, follow the road for about 1 mile until you come to a roundabout, turn right and first left and you will be at the pool.
From the A1
A1 to the A19 Tyne Tunnel, once through the tunnel take first left posted Hebburn & Jarrow, left again at the roundabout , following the signs for Hebburn A185. straight on at the next roundabout, next roundabout head left towards Hebburn, straight on at the traffic light (Albert Road onto Victoria Road) follow the road for about 1 mile, the swimming pool is on your left hand side.
