Recruitment
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service often has vacancies in many areas of service provision, including wholetime community firefighters. But ask yourself these questions:
The answers are very simple. The Fire and Rescue Service not only needs to employ firefighters, but also needs to ensure that equipment, premises, information and vehicles provided for firefighters to use are also able to do the job. So, not everyone who works for the Fire and Rescue Service is involved in firefighting. Crucial support functions are carried out at our many premises in the county, with a variety of different skills employed in areas like community safety, technical and engineering services, information technology, finance and personnel. We employ clerical and administrative staff, accountants, property managers, technicians, personnel officers, IT specialists, and drivers to name but a few. We also employ a number of control room staff who undertake the vital role of answering and dealing with emergency calls, and making sure firefighters are supported at each and every incident. These roles provide comprehensive and key support to the operational effectiveness of the service, thereby contributing to the safety of the public we serve. Although the number of staff employed in these areas is relatively small in relation to the firefighting staff, they form at least one quarter of our workforce and provide a professional support function in many key strategic areas. So, if you are interested in working for the Fire and Rescue Service and supporting safety in the community in which you live and work, look no further than the vacancies we have available at present. Whether that be as a firefighter or as a vehicle technician, or any other role available, consider applying to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service. |
