As well as firefighting, staff are also the main asset in undertaking a range of Community Safety (CS) activities that are primarily aimed at preventing fires and deaths and injuries in fires.

The Community Safety Centre houses the Community Safety Team, and the Fire Cadets.

The Community Safety Centre also boasts a full media prepared auditorium seating 120 a well as a meeting room with a capacity for 12 people.  This entire facility is integrated within a fully functional fire station and accessible to all members of our community.

South Shields has two fire appliances able to respond to range of incidents and a support vehicle where terrain is such that it would prevent standard appliances, Firefighters and equipment accessing incidents in areas such as the cliffs on the Leas.
